CSKA finally wins the Euroleague!

В конце,победа ЦСКА!

The Russian team was finally able to overcome their bad luck in the finals, thanks to a  101:96 win over Fenerbahce. Their first Euroleague since the year 2008. and seventh in the club’s history. Coach Itoudis who became the owner of his first Euroleague trophy, was thrown in the air by the ecstatic players and staff, as they were all able to take a sigh of relief.

Первая победа в финалах для ЦСКА после семь долгих год. Феноменальный результат и для Дмитриса Итудиса, держательа свое первые титуле Евролиге. Теодосич, де Коло и Хряапа, бесспорный герой вечере. Разница от 21 очков, исчезла пока конца основного времени матча (83:83), когда Армейцы вставали с инициативой “Кэпа”. В конце концов, 101:96.

After an intense match and a strong lead by CSKA of +21, Fener had managed to claw their way back into a very competitive result, entering the extra 5 minutes with an equaliser of 83:83. Despite the huge desire of team lead by coach Željko Obradović, Fener was eventually overplayed by the Armeytsi, who woke up during overtime, through the three heroes of the evening: De Colo, Khryapa and Teodosić.

This is Miloš Teodosić’s first and more than deserved Euroleague, after  seven attempts. The Serbian captain scored 19 points in this final, concluding that after winning the Euroleague, he wants more trophies.

Nevertheless, the season’s MVP is Nando de Colo with 22 points and 7 rebs, that gave his team that necessary boost in the overtime. While Viktor Khryapa recovered from two arm fractures and lifted the coveted trophy.

On the side of Fener, Udoh and Antić both scored 16 points, while Udoh had 11 rebs. A double-double that gave him a PIR of 24. Despite the team’s defeat, it was impossible to oversee Istanbul’s “X factor”, Kostas Sloukas, whose desire to win or at least get closer to CSKA’s advantage was almost palpable in every single step.

Sloukas scored 10 points and had a 3/3 on the free throws, a category that was one of the main reasons for Fener’s second comeback. In other news, Loko finished third by beating Laboral.

Tonight’s incredible match marked the final of a very exciting Euroleague season, and a true example of excellence in European basketball. Despite the fact it just ended, fans already seem hungry for more.
